Mr. Goodnight vs. The Width of a Circle (Live)

Song:  Mr. Goodnight
Album:  Planet Earth
Year:  2007

Prince is going to seduce you with opulence and, for some reason, a mouth full of Raisinettes.  He will set you up in the penthouse suite and feed you beverages that rich people are supposed to like.  You will watch a movie you may or may not want to see.  You will recall Jason Segel mispronouncing that movie in I Love You Man and then wish you were actually watching THAT movie if only to hear Paul Rudd utter the words "Slappa da bass."  But I digress.  You see, I tend to zone out when Prince is in seduction mode beyond the 1980s.  I'm sure he's fine with that.  But what strikes me as odd is that he wants to be known as Mr. Goodnight.

So he's not actually going to do anything with you after the seduction.  He will seduce and . . . what? . . . leave?  Go to sleep?  Seems cruel but maybe that's a thing.

Verdict:  2.5/5 stars.

Would I sing it at karaoke?  Nope.

Song:  The Width of a Circle (Live)
Album:  Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars (The Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Year:  1982

Bowie is going to rock you.  He will ensure that you are properly entertained for almost 16 minutes, much of that guitar and drum solos.  He will employ a couple rhythm changes along the way and will pantomime running into an invisible wall.  He will direct the Spiders From Mars to melt your face with hard rock, though this will be marred by inadequate audio production.  He will not say good night.  He will leave it to you to figure out that the width of a circle is called a diameter.

Verdict:  3/5 stars (for this particular live version of a 5/5 song)

Would I sing it at karaoke?  Absolutely

Winner:  The Width of a Circle (Live)

Running Score:  Bowie 4, Prince 2
